My first job was working on a market stall and I still love the buzz and atmosphere of a market. In Oxford, we have quite a few to choose from and a few posts ago I wrote about the Gloucester Green market.
This weekend I went to the Covered Market in Oxford – as well as the immense Ben’s Cookies there are loads of independent shops and as you can guess, the vintage frills in the window of the Helen & Douglas House shop caught my eye.
It’s a small shop but full of delights and beautifully merchandised. There is a mixture of women’s clothes, homewares, jewellery and there was a sale on this Saturday.
I chose a few items to try on – a multi coloured, patterned 80s wrap dress and a grey/blue, floaty number. The changing room was lovely, with an upcycled mirror and velvet curtain. I did love both of them but the first was a bit too tight, and the second a bit too big. It’s a small shop so the stock, I assume, must be selected from other Helen & Douglas shops and so you’ll probably find the cream of the crop in here. I will definitely be back again to the market and this charity shop, and not without a quick trip to Ben’s Cookies!
