Vintage furniture upcycle – part one

I found this sideboard about two years ago on the street in Oxford, I spent a year debating what to do and then a year buying bits and bobs but never touching it.

Today, I made the plunge! I went to Annie Sloan on Cowley Road, got some paint (Louis Blue) and set to work. I started by cleaning it then sanding the rough bits. I then dived in with the paint. I did get advised to buy the wax and I think going forward I need to get a pot as I got quite a few little bubbles appearing.

It’s by no means finished but it’s certainly brightened up my living room. It’s a lot more blue than the photo and matches a few things on the wall. Next steps will be sanding and varnishing the main wood section and sourcing some quirky handles to give it a modern feel.

The Annie Sloan shop had some really cool round brushes which, I’d like to invest in one day but for now I’ll stick to my mid range Wilkinson specials!
