The Retro Rooms on St Clements in Oxford has been open for about two weeks now. I got a message about it on my Facebook page and decided to take a visit.
The shop is owned by Audrey, who previously had two shops up in Glasgow. She’s recently moved here to open the shop and be closer to her family.
The shop is at the site of Lemie’s Revival boutique – the shop that never seemed to be open! But I can assure you under new ownership and brand, The Retro Rooms is open for business and stocked full of lots of wonderful fashions.
Audrey showed me around the shop and pointed out some of the stock they had in. The shop sells a mixture of secondhand mid-high end labels, designer items and vintage. The prices range anywhere from £5 to £500 (but for this price you’re talking Chanel!).
Audrey said “I’ve been open about two weeks now and I’m hoping that people will come in and just have a look around. We’ve got fashions for everyone from students, to people going to a ball – with the prices to match.”
The shop is on two levels with the main floor full of accessories – shoes, handbags, jewellery. And then going downstairs there are two rooms; one with designer and second hand pieces and the other with vintage and pre-loved pieces.
The shop sources it’s stock in many ways but Audrey also takes people’s items they want to sell (as long as they are good quality) and splits the money with them.
I’m so pleased that this shop has a new lease of life with someone who has been running vintage and second hand shops for years. It’s a great new addition to Oxford and I’ll hopefully see you all around the rails soon!
Here’s some of my fave pieces in the shop – but as the stock is ever changing, who knows what you may find. I bought the first dress below (Louise Feraud) and a polka dot Topshop shirt.
