Portugal seems to be the place to go this year and I had a lovely trip with some friends recently. We stayed in Lisbon in Alfama just by the São Jorge Castle.
I’ve never been to Portugal before and thought it was beautiful and the people were very friendly. Our Air BnB host dropped off the keys and took us on a tour of the area and even bought us all a shot of Port to welcome us to Portugal.
One of our friends was already over with her sister so we went to a nearby restaurant to wait for her. The food was AMAZING. Fresh fish, prawns, cheese mmmmm The food and drink are very cheap so we definitely made the most of it!
The next day we took the train to Sintra, out in the mountains, to visit the 19th-century Pena National Palace. Sintra is full of lush green, pastel colours and in some ways like a gothic disney land with the palatial architecture. I think it was about £10 to get into the palace grounds and buildings – bargain.
We walked the little legs of ourselves, went selfie crazy up on the palace and learned about some of the history of Portugal.
We had a last day trip out to the beach and just chilled and swam in the sea and chatted. I would thoroughly recommend a few days in Portugal and would love to go back to explore the rest of the country.
