Happy New Year all!
I hope you had a great 2017 and are looking forward to what 2018 might bring. I had a lovely Christmas break back home in Liverpool and have spent the last few days blitzing my house in Oxford ready for the new year.
I started the first half of the year really into blogging and visiting lots of places but work and life took over slightly. However, a new year brings in a new enthusiasm for writing and developing the site again. I’ve been running Vintage Oxford since 2014 now – can’t believe I’ve actually stuck to a blog for that long ha!
I’ve rounded up some of the vintage and charity shops I got to in 2017. We do have some awesome shops and events in Oxford and hopefully I will get to some more this year.
The Cowley Road has changed a lot in the five years I’ve lived here. I love all the new restaurants, cafes and bars. Who remembers when Big Society was the Chinese karaoke place!? At the start of the road on the Plain you’ve got the glam Ballroom Emporium which sells a range of vintage and uni gowns. Then you have Reign Vintage, Oxfam, Barnardos and Age UK to have a snoop around. Sadly this year we lost the Sue Ryder vintage shop 🙁
2017 saw the opening of The Retro Rooms – a buy and sell second-hand and vintage shop. This shop has designer pieces, high street faves and lots of great accessories.
Unicorn is still going strong and as mad as ever. This is tucked down a side street and is packed to the rafters with vintage and retro gems. The city centre’s vintage game is not that strong. There is a Helen & Douglas House in the covered market that sometimes has some vintage stuff but that’s really about it. We need a Cow vintage or Beyond Retro in the new Westgate!
We do have the travelling Judy’s Vintage Fair every now and again and I went to one last year in town.
Weston-on-the-Green is home to my all time fave shop The Old Flight House. Made up of loads of different themed units selling vintage, new, retro and upcycled goodies. You could furnish your whole house in here and have a fab dress to waltz around it in.
So for 2018, I’m on the hunt for some new shops to get to – any Oxfordshire recommendations you have, leave in the comments for me 🙂
