Vintage Oxford Visits: Hamblin Bread

Iffley Road has developed a lot over the years. When I first moved down to Oxford the highlights were the Magdalen Arms pub, the fish & chip ship and of course, the Co-op!

Now though, there is a bustling little scene starting to happen. We’ve had Bannister’s Cafe open for a while now, serving lovely breakfast and brunches. Silvie’s has the most beautiful little secret garden for a coffee and bite to eat – with a resident cat to boot.

The Co-op has had a face lift and now stocks more stuff. I swear half my salary gets spent in there :/. The little newsagent now has a fruit and veg bit outside, which is great for fresh herbs and random bits. And of course the fish & chip shop is still going strong with the most friendliest shop owner in the world, Kazem.

I was very excited to see the shop next to Bannister’s, which used to be This Old Plain, was opening up as something new.

Welcome to Iffley Road Hamblin Bread.

This new bakery come cafe come shop opened last week. It’s run by Kate & Hugo, who’ve recently just moved back to Oxford from London. Both of them have been involved in the food industry for quite a while and they are making the bread fresh on site – the smell inside is amazing.

Hamblin’s also stocks some sandwiches with locally sourced ingredients, some local ales and other little tasty bits.  There are plans for workshops, pizza and more. There is some seating inside and out the front for when it starts getting a little sunnier and you can have a little filter coffee if you fancy.

A great addition to Iffley Road and I’ll certainly be popping in for some home-made bread on a weekend. The shop will be open Wednesday – Sunday 8 am til 4 pm and closed on Monday & Tuesday.

You can follow Hamblin Bread on Instagram, here. See you around the shop soon 🙂
